Dr. José F. Rodríguez-Orengo is a Professor at the Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico, with more than 25 years of experience in higher education and scientific research and more than 100 peer-reviewed articles (basic, clinical, and public health). He has been involved in multiple NIH and CDC research grants, with over $150M obtained during his career. He was Executive Director at the Puerto Rico Institute of Forensic Sciences, completing a radical transformation using lean-six-sigma to increase productivity and improve the quality of the processes. As Acting Chancellor at the UPR-Medical Sciences Campus, transformed the IT system to benefit educational and research endeavors. With a group of colleagues from UPR-MSC, he founded MBQ Pharma, the first Pharmaceutical Company to develop anticancer products patented by the UPR. MBQ Pharma obtained an IND in June 2022 and will start a phase 1 clinical trial in August 2023. He has the vision of integrating and collaborating among different entities to promote Puerto Rico as a premier research and economic development site.
